Red Robin Holly is an evergreen holly with a dense, upright to pyramidal shape. Its glossy foliage stays green throughout the year. New growth emerges in a rich maroon-red color before turning deep green as it matures. This creates a striking contrast between the fresh new leaves and the older foliage. Small white flowers appear in spring. On female plants, the flowers can develop into bright red berries when a compatible male holly is nearby for pollination. The berries mature in fall and may remain through winter, adding color to the landscape after many deciduous plants have lost their leaves.

At maturity, Red Robin Holly can reach about 15 to 20 feet tall and 12 to 15 feet wide. Its dense growth makes it useful for hedges and screens. The upright form also works well as a specimen in larger landscapes. The evergreen foliage provides a year-round backdrop for flowering plants and perennials. It can also help define property lines or create privacy around outdoor spaces. Because the plant can become fairly large, it should be given enough room to reach its mature size without crowding nearby plants or structures.

Once established, the plant can be pruned to control its size or maintain a desired shape. Its natural form is already upright and pyramidal, so heavy pruning is usually not needed.
