Flamenco Red Hot Poker

Kniphofia uvaria ‘Flamenco’

Flamenco Red Hot Poker is a vibrant perennial known for its tall flower spikes, fiery color blend, and exceptional summer performance. Blooming from early summer through late summer, it produces striking torch-like flower spikes featuring shades of red, orange, yellow, and gold. The colorful blooms rise well above clumps of narrow, grass-like foliage, creating dramatic vertical interest in the landscape.

Its upright habit and bold flower display make it an excellent focal point in perennial borders, cottage gardens, and pollinator plantings. The vibrant flowers open gradually from the bottom upward, extending the display period and providing weeks of garden color. The evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage adds texture throughout much of the year in milder climates.

Typically reaching 3 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, Flamenco creates a strong architectural presence without overwhelming surrounding plants. The nectar-rich blooms are highly attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators.

This perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates drought, heat, and poor soil conditions while requiring very little maintenance. Good drainage is especially important during the winter months.

Care Instructions:

Planting: Plant in full sun for the best flowering and strongest growth.
Soil: Prefers average, well-drained soil.
Watering: Water regularly during establishment. Kniphofia are drought-tolerant once established.
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring as new growth emerges.
Pruning: Remove spent flower stalks after blooming and trim damaged foliage in early spring.
Spacing: Space plants 24–36 inches apart for mature growth and airflow.
Maintenance: Avoid excessively wet winter soils and mulch lightly around the crown.

Its fiery flower spikes, long bloom season, and pollinator appeal make Flamenco Red Hot Poker a standout addition to sunny gardens and mixed perennial borders.
