ZZ Plant
Zamioculcas zamiifolia, Zanzibar Gem, Eternity Plant, Aroid PalmZZ Plant, scientifically known as Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is one of the most popular and resilient houseplants, celebrated for its glossy, dark green foliage and incredible tolerance to neglect. Native to Eastern Africa, this tropical houseplant is valued for its upright, arching stems that emerge from underground rhizomes, storing water and making the plant highly drought-tolerant. Its lush, waxy leaves reflect light beautifully, giving it a clean, modern look that suits both homes and offices.
Often called the “cast-iron plant of the new generation,” the ZZ Plant thrives in a wide range of indoor conditions, including low light and inconsistent watering, making it a favorite for beginners and busy plant owners. With its slow-growing, compact nature, it adds elegance without demanding attention, and can adapt to almost any indoor setting.
Beyond its easy-care qualities, the ZZ Plant has become a collector’s staple for modern interiors thanks to its air-purifying properties and ability to tolerate less-than-ideal conditions. Whether displayed as a specimen on a desk, grouped in containers, or used in low-light corners, it delivers long-lasting greenery and architectural structure with minimal effort.
Care Instructions:
Light Requirements: Tolerates low to bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Soil Needs: Prefers a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend with sand or perlite.
Watering: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot; underwatering is better tolerated.
Humidity: Average household humidity is sufficient.
Fertilizing: Feed every 2–3 months during the growing season with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Minimal feeding is required.
Pruning: Remove yellow or damaged leaves at the base to maintain a tidy appearance.
Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when the plant becomes rootbound, refreshing the soil to encourage healthy growth.
