Autumn Sundance Encore Azalea
Rhododendron ‘Roblef’Autumn Sundance Encore Azalea is a lively and colorful shrub prized for its ruffled, bright pink blooms that appear not only in spring, but again in late summer and fall. These reblooming flowers are both charming and vivid, giving garden spaces a fresh burst of color over multiple seasons. The semi-double blooms stand out beautifully against its glossy green foliage.
This azalea has a refined upright habit and grows to a moderate height, making it ideal for small garden beds, foundation plantings, or container use. One of its standout features is its fall and winter foliage, which transitions from dark green to a deep reddish-bronze hue, adding seasonal contrast and richness to the landscape even when it’s not in bloom.
As with all Encore Azaleas, Autumn Sundance was bred to handle more sun than traditional azaleas and thrives in full to partial sunlight. It performs best in Southern gardens but can succeed in cooler regions of Zone 6 with appropriate winter protection. Low-maintenance yet high-impact, it’s a strong performer for anyone seeking reliable, repeat blooms and year-round interest.
care instructions:
Planting: Choose a site with morning sun and afternoon shade or filtered light. Amend soil with compost or peat moss and plant slightly above grade for improved drainage. Space 3–4 feet apart.
Watering: Maintain evenly moist soil, especially during establishment and blooming periods. Mulch to conserve moisture and protect roots.
Pruning: Prune after the first flush of blooms in spring to shape and remove any dead or weak branches. Avoid pruning late in the season.
Pest Control: Generally pest- and disease-resistant. Monitor for lace bugs or spider mites; treat early with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Soil Tips: Prefers acidic (pH 5.5–6.5), well-aerated soil. Enrich with organic matter and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
